• Mr. Pitt's Poetry Prompts: For each prompt, write a short poem.

     

    Prompt # 1: "Taste the Rainbow": What does your favorite color taste like? Write a poem.

     

    Prompt # 2: "Imagine Weather Indoors": Perhaps a thunderstorm indoors. Maybe a tornado in the kitchen. Write a poem about weather indoors.

     

    Prompt # 3: Write an autobiographical poem (a poem about yourself)... but do not use any first person, personal pronouns: I, me, my, mine, we , us, our.

     

    Prompt # 4: "7 Days / 7 Lines": Write a 7 line poem, where each line is about a day of the week.

     

    Prompt # 5: Music Poem: Listen to the style of music... and write a stanza. Listen to the next style of music... and write another stanza. Repeat.

     

    Prompt # 6: Write a poem made up entirely of questions.

     

    Prompt # 7: "The People I Have Known": Write a poem for or about a person you do not see anymore (friend, neighbor, family member, teacher, etc.)

     

    Prompt # 8: Free Write

     

    Prompt # 9: "I used to be __________, but now I am _____________." Write a 10 line poem with this formula on each line.

     

    Prompt # 10: Wrote a poem about things you do not know about.

     

    Prompt # 11: (Tuesdays with Morrie): Morrie is dying from a fatal disease. Imagine you were diagnosed with a fatal disease. Write a poem about how you would react and what you would do with your remaining time.

     

    Prompt # 12 (Tuesdays with Morrie). On page 66, Mitch lists nine topics he would like to learn more about. Write a poem about one or more of these topics. 

     

    Prompt # 13 (Tuesdays with Morrie). Morrie says to "revel in your age." Write a poem about what it is like to be 17 (or whatever age you are) -- the good, the bad, and everything in between.

     

    Prompt # 14 (Tuesdays with Morrie). An "ode" is a type of poem that extolls (praises) someone or something. It is a "lyric" poem, meaning it does not have to tell a story like a "narrative" poem. Write an "ode" for Morrie... or an "ode" to old age... or an "ode" to wisdome... or anything else.
