Physical Education Rules and Policies
-
A student and Parent information sheet about how a student should conduct and prepare themselves for PE class.
1) Attendance/Dismissal
- Students will report to the appropriate locker rooms by the bell. Students will have five (5) minutes to change after the bell rings.
- Students are responsible for being in the assigned area/squad for attendance on time.
- oIf a student is tardy, it is his/her responsibility to report to class and show an admittance pass, otherwise loss of participation points will occur.
- Even if a pass is presented, teachers cannot unlock the locker room doors once class has begun. CONSTANT UNEXCUSED TARDIES WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF PARTICIPATION POINTSAND A REFERAL.
- oIf you arrive late, have not changed, and there is less than 30 minutes of activity time remaining, you will NOT receive credit for class.
- oA make-up session must be attended in order to receive credit for this class (ONLY if the tardy is an excused tardy).
- Students are dismissed to change clothing 5 minutes prior to the bell.
- Once changed, students are to report back to the appropriate gymnasium for a second attendance.
- Students must then remain there until the bell rings.
- DO NOT DISMISS YOURSELF FROM CLASS! This will result in a loss of daily participation points.
2) Dress Code:
- Students are expected to change clothing for physical education
- oStudents who do not change (or place clothing over attire worn to school) will not receive credit for class; they will be deemed “unprepared” for class
- Appropriate attire for participation will include:
- oSNEAKERS. (No work boots, hiking shoes, sandals, etc.)
- oShorts or sweatpants that cover under shorts.
- oTee shirt or sweatshirt that covers the collarbone and does not show the midriff.
- Inappropriate attire for participation will include: Any attire deemed unsafe/inappropriate by your teacher will result in no credit for the class
- oHeavy jackets, bulky clothing, pants/shorts with large pockets, or jeans (including jean shorts) are not appropriate.
- oMinimal jewelry. Some jewelry poses a safety hazard in physical education.
- oNO HEADGEAR of any kind is to be worn during class.
- oNO iPODS OR CELLULAR PHONES.
3) Unprepared Students
- Students will NOT be allowed to participate during class if they are unprepared.
- Students unprepared for class are to stay with their teacher, regardless of location (i.e. outdoor/indoor).
4) Locker Rooms
- ALL STUDENTS MUST USE HALL LOCKERS TO STORE PHYSICAL EDUCATION ATTIRE.
- The lockers in both male and female locker rooms are to be used for temporary storage only – during your own physical education class.
- Locks left on any locker in the locker rooms will be cut off and the clothing discarded.
- You must provide your own lock for the gym locker you use during the class period.
- We cannot guarantee the safety of the items in any of the locker rooms.
5) Absences and Make-ups
- Physical Education is a participation-based class (i.e. students must be present and participate in order to receive daily participation credit).
- Students may attend a make-up session in order to receive credit for classes missed due to LEGAL ABSENCES such as sickness, field trips etc.
- Make-up classes will be held one day per week; either before or after school.
- Students have five weeks into the new quarter to make-up missed classes from a previous marking period. **However, since Physical Education is a one semester course, makeup work cannot be completed once the semester is over.
6) Medical Excuses
- Students are not excused from Physical Education for medical reasons.
- IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO GET THE PROPER HEALTH FORM FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE COMPLETED AND RETURNED IN A TIMELY MANNER**
- o**Medical work will not be assigned until the appropriate paperwork is received.
- Medical information for chronic problems – i.e. asthma – must be updated each year.
7) Edline Page
- Information pertinent to class can also be found my Edline page.
8) Portfolio
- Students will be given a folder for class work, projects and assessments.
