Physical Education Rules and Policies

  • A student and Parent information sheet about how a student should conduct and prepare themselves for PE class.

    1)      Attendance/Dismissal

    • Students will report to the appropriate locker rooms by the bell.  Students will have five (5) minutes to change after the bell rings. 
    • Students are responsible for being in the assigned area/squad for attendance on time
      • oIf a student is tardy, it is his/her responsibility to report to class and show an admittance pass, otherwise loss of participation points will occur.
    • Even if a pass is presented, teachers cannot unlock the locker room doors once class has begun.  CONSTANT UNEXCUSED TARDIES WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF PARTICIPATION POINTSAND A REFERAL. 
      • oIf you arrive late, have not changed, and there is less than 30 minutes of activity time remaining, you will NOT receive credit for class.
      • oA make-up session must be attended in order to receive credit for this class (ONLY if the tardy is an excused tardy). 
    • Students are dismissed to change clothing 5 minutes prior to the bell.
    • Once changed, students are to report back to the appropriate gymnasium for a second attendance. 
    • Students must then remain there until the bell rings. 
    • DO NOT DISMISS YOURSELF FROM CLASS!  This will result in a loss of daily participation points. 

    2)      Dress Code:

    • Students are expected to change clothing for physical education
      • oStudents who do not change (or place clothing over attire worn to school) will not receive credit for class; they will be deemed “unprepared” for class
    • Appropriate attire for participation will include:
      • oSNEAKERS. (No work boots, hiking shoes, sandals, etc.)
      • oShorts or sweatpants that cover under shorts. 
      • oTee shirt or sweatshirt that covers the collarbone and does not show the midriff.
    • Inappropriate attire for participation will include: Any attire deemed unsafe/inappropriate by your teacher will result in no credit for the class
      • oHeavy jackets, bulky clothing, pants/shorts with large pockets, or jeans (including jean shorts) are not appropriate. 
      • oMinimal jewelry. Some jewelry poses a safety hazard in physical education.
      • oNO HEADGEAR of any kind is to be worn during class.
      • oNO iPODS OR CELLULAR PHONES.

    3)      Unprepared Students

    • Students will NOT be allowed to participate during class if they are unprepared.
    • Students unprepared for class are to stay with their teacher, regardless of location (i.e. outdoor/indoor).

    4)      Locker Rooms

    • ALL STUDENTS MUST USE HALL LOCKERS TO STORE PHYSICAL EDUCATION ATTIRE. 
    • The lockers in both male and female locker rooms are to be used for temporary storage only – during your own physical education class. 
    • Locks left on any locker in the locker rooms will be cut off and the clothing discarded. 
    • You must provide your own lock for the gym locker you use during the class period. 
    • We cannot guarantee the safety of the items in any of the locker rooms. 

    5)      Absences and Make-ups

    • Physical Education is a participation-based class (i.e. students must be present and participate in order to receive daily participation credit). 
    • Students may attend a make-up session in order to receive credit for classes missed due to LEGAL ABSENCES such as sickness, field trips etc. 
    • Make-up classes will be held one day per week; either before or after school. 
    • Students have five weeks into the new quarter to make-up missed classes from a previous marking period.  **However, since Physical Education is a one semester course, makeup work cannot be completed once the semester is over.

    6)      Medical Excuses

    • Students are not excused from Physical Education for medical reasons. 
    • IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO GET THE PROPER HEALTH FORM FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE COMPLETED AND RETURNED IN A TIMELY MANNER**
      • o**Medical work will not be assigned until the appropriate paperwork is received.
      • Medical information for chronic problems – i.e. asthma – must be updated each year.

    • Students will be given a folder for class work, projects and assessments.
