"ALL students must feel that they are welcome, they belong, and they are supported."
NY Board of Regents
To support educators, the New York State Education Department developed a Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework that has four principles:"The Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework is intended to help education stakeholders create student-centered learning environments that affirm cultural identities; foster positive academic outcomes; develop students’ abilities to connect across lines of difference; elevate historically marginalized voices; empower students as agents of social change; and contribute to individual student engagement, learning, growth, and achievement through the cultivation of critical thinking. The framework was designed to support education stakeholders in developing and implementing policies that educate all students effectively and equitably, as well as provide appropriate supports and services to promote positive student outcomes."
Arlington's Initiatives
As a District, we strive to ensure that all students graduate college, career, and life-ready. Our equity efforts are an important component of ensuring that all students have an opportunity to succeed. As a school district, Arlington is committed to creating an inclusive culture where all students feel a sense of belonging and where the dignity of each individual is honored and respected.
The Biased Incident Response Handbook
The Biased Incident Response Handbook is presented in an effort to cultivate wellness and belonging in accordance with the mission of the Arlington Central School District. Our goal is to create an inclusive environment in which all students feel respected and experience a sense of belonging. This handbook will empower all faculty and staff with the tools, supports, and resources they need to address biased situations as they occur.
